This Apple Pie Tiramisu is layered with ladyfingers soaked in bourbon, spiced mousse, apple pie spice whipped cream and apple pie filling.
It’s really hard to me to have an “ultimate favorite” as I use the term favorite a lot around here, but it is just in my nature. The same can be said for trying to top my previous most popular posts: Apple Pie Lasagna.
Well I am going to try with this Apple Pie Tiramisu. This is one of those recipes that just sort of popped into my head and immediately had to be executed and published right away. After all, what kind of food blogger would I be if I didn’t stuff your news feed full of apple desserts at this time of year?
This Apple Pie Tiramisu has bourbon soaked ladyfingers with a spiced mousse and apple pie flavored whipped cream. Between all that, there is loads of caramel and apple pie filling just waiting for your to sink your fork into.
I want to be sure you didn’t glaze over the apple pie whipped cream. Umm hello, where have you been all my life? Earlier this week, I saw Amanda posted a recipe with Apple Cider Whipped Cream and I pretty much stopped in my tracks. I swear, she is pure genius. I wanted to try the apple cider whipped cream for this tiramisu, but I didn’t have any apple cider on hand, so I settled for apple pie spice instead. Still a good decision.
The first time I tried a Tiramisu dessert, I used fresh lady fingers, which are more cake-like. I do prefer those ones because they are thinner and they were cut in half. However they were very hard to find outside of one grocery store. I decided to try this dessert with standard, cookie-like lady fingers.
Instead of soaking them in the traditional espresso or Kahlua , I decided to brush them with a mixture of milk and bourbon. It was an excellent choice. If you want to make a bourbon version, try brushing them in apple cider!
The mousse filling is made with a cinnamon-spiced pudding mixed with mascarpone cheese. If you don’t like mascarpone, or don’t have any on hand, feel free to substitute with regular cream cheese. The mousse is mixed with the apple pie whipped cream. I swear I could of eaten the whole filling with a spoon.
Now it’s time to build your dessert! It’s relatively easily and can be totally customized to your liking. I added some caramel and some walnuts and made sure I had plenty of whipped cream for the top! Now hurry up and grab some apples so you can make this.

For the pie filling
- 3 Medium apples, sliced
- 1/2 Lemon, juiced
- 2 tbsp Maple syrup
- 2 tbsp Light brown sugar
- 1 tbsp All-purpose flour
- 1 tsp Cinnamon
For the mousse:
- 1 pkg Instant vanilla pudding (3.4oz)
- 1 tsp Cinnamon
- ½ tsp Apple pie spice
- 1 ¾ C Milk
- 1 ¼ C Heavy whipping cream
- ¾ C Powdered sugar
- 1 tsp Apple pie spice
- 8 oz Cream cheese or mascarpone cheese
For the Tiramisu
- 4 tbsp Milk
- 4 tbsp Bourbon
- 2 pkg Lady fingers (7oz)
- 1/4 C Caramel sauce
- Walnuts for garnish (optional)
- Prepare apple pie filling. Slice apples into small pieces and squeeze a lemon over top and stir to combine.
- Add brown sugar, flour, maple syrup and cinnamon over top of apples. Stir to mix ingredients.
- Heat apples on the stove over medium heat for 15-20 minutes until soft. Stir occasionally. You want the apples to be soft. Cool completely.
- For the mousse: In a medium-sized bowl, combine vanilla pudding with cinnamon and apple pie spice. Whisk together. Add milk and whisk until pudding mix is dissolved. Refrigerate 10-15 minutes until firm.
- Put your mixing bowl and wire whisk in the freezer to help it get very cold. This is optional, but something I usually do.
- Beat heavy whipping cream on medium-high speed. As whipped cream begins to thicker, slowly added powdered sugar and apple pie spice increasing speed to high and beat until still peaks form. Divide whipped cream in half and set whipped cream in the refrigerator.
- Best the cream cheese on medium-high speed for 2-3 minutes, scraping down the bowl occasionally. Slowly add the pudding to the cream cheese, and beat together to eliminate any lumps in the cream cheese. Scrape the bowl occasionally.
- Combine half of the whipped cream in the pudding mixer and fold until combined.
- To build the tiramisu, layer the bottom of a 9x9x2 inch pan with parchment paper. In a shallow bowl, combine milk and bourbon and mix together. Dip each lady finger in the liquid and align them on the bottom of the pan. Drizzle with caramel sauce Cut to fit if necessary.
- Layer half the mousse on top of the lady fingers and spread evenly. Add 1 ¼ cups of apple pie filling and spread across the mousse, gently pressing it in.
- Repeat the above steps, dipping lady fingers in liquid to create the third layer and drizzle with caramel. Spread remaining mousse and apple pie filling. Top the tiramisu with remaining whipped cream. Right before serving, drizzle with remaining caramel and sprinkle with walnuts or toffee.
