Samoa Muddy Buddies transfers your favorite childhood snack into a crunchy, chocolate and caramel stuffed snack mix. The Chocolate Chex cereal is mixed with chocolate spread and caramel and it’s coated in coconut and powdered sugar, then sprinkled with Samoa Cookies.

You will seriously thank me for these Samoa Muddy Buddies. I swear chocolate, caramel and coconut are quite the amazing combination. I just can’t stop. Okay maybe I can, this is the last Girl Scout Cookie recipe that I am sharing for a little while.

Alight, you’ll are here for the muddy buddies right? This recipe mixes three different chocolates, two types of caramel and shredded coconut with Chex cereal, powdered sugar and chopped Samoa Cookies.

The end results is much pretty much indescribably addicting. Don’t blame me if you can’t stop after the first, second or third handful. For the filling, I combined chocolate chips with Hershey’s Chocolate Spread and Caramel sauce. Once that is melted, I poured it over Chocolate Chex Cereal and Shredded Coconut. Then I coated the cereal with powdered sugar.

To finish it off, I drizzled more caramel on top and added crushed Samoa cookies. Now really, that extra layer of caramel on the outside itsn’t completely necessary, but I love the look and color that it adds.

It’s important that you allow the caramel to cool until you are able to touch it. It will be EXTREMLY hot when it first comes off the stove. Mix it around with a spoon and then pull the caramel apart into smaller pieces. It will stay soft but it won’t stay melted.

You will want to break it up a little so that you don’t have large chunks of caramel the next day. This recipe makes a really large batch, perfect for serving a crowd. It fills an entire gallon sized Ziploc bag.

Samoa Muddy Buddies

  • Author: Julianne Dell
  • Prep Time: 10 minutes
  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: 10-12 Cups

Description

A chocolate and caramel stuffed Chex cereal coated in coconut and powdered sugar. Sprinkled with Samoa Cookies.

Ingredients

  • 10 oz Chocolate chips
  • 4 tbsp Butter
  • 1/2 C Hersheys chocolate spread
  • 1/4 C Caramel sauce
  • 2 C Shredded coconut
  • 78 C Chocolate Chex
  • 3 C Powdered sugar
  • 25 Kraft caramels (optional)
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 Box Samoa cookies

Instructions

  1. Combine chocolate chips, butter and Hershey’s spread in a medium size sauce pan over medium heat. Stir occasionally to mix melted butter into chocolate chips.
  2. Once chocolate chips are completely melted, add caramel sauce and mix to combine with chocolate.
  3. In an XL mixing bowl, combine Chocolate Chex and coconut. Pour melted chocolate over cereal mix and toss with a spoon to completely coat the cereal.
  4. In a Ziploc bag, add 1 1/2 cups of powdered sugar and half of the chocolate coated cereal. Seal the bag and shake vigorously to coat the cereal in powdered sugar. Pour out on a cookie sheet to cool. Repeat with the second half of the cereal and additional powdered sugar.
  5. This next step is optional. Unwrap 24 Kraft Caramels, combine and melt on the stovetop over medium-low heat. The caramel needs to be constantly stirred while melting so it doesn’t burn. The caramel will be extremely hot, use caution when handling. Once melted, slowly drizzle caramel over the muddy buddies.
  6. Once caramel has cooled slightly, gently stir to spread the caramel, evenly breaking apart some larger pieces with your fingers. Some of it will stick to the cereal and some will not. I cut up the extra pieces of caramel and left them in the muddy buddies.
  7. Cut Samoa cookies into tiny pieces and sprinkle into muddy buddies.
  8. Keep stored in an air tight container for up too three days.

Notes

Use extreme caution when handling Caramel. It will be very hot! Once caramel has cooled slightly, break apart some larger pieces with your fingers. Some of it will stick to the cereal and some will not. I cut up the extra pieces of caramel and left them in the muddy buddies.

I love Somoas & I love puppy chow so this will be a dangerous combination for me FOR SURE!!! Somoas have toasted coconut on them, so did you toast the shredded coconut first???

  2. Jeni

These look divine! In your opinion, would they still be Samoa-like without the actual Samoas? I may or may not have eaten all of them.

Hi Jeni- Yes I do think it would still be Samoa like! I could add some more shredded coconut to actual pie, and maybe some shortbread cookie!

Samoa cookies are my favorite girl scout cookies…. well, maybe it’s a tie between Thin Mints and Samoa Cookies. However, I think this would be the winner of all. You took my love of Samoa cookies and my love of puppy chow and combined them into one!! Genius! Can’t wait to try this recipe 🙂

So much Girl Scout Cookie yumminess!!! I’m on overload!! These muddy buddies look and sound aMAZing! The dental experience sounds horrible. I hope everything is fixed and you don’t have to go back!?

My hate/dislike/(putting off dental visits) for the dentist has gone to tolerate the past 3 months as I found a wonderful dentist who uses “The Wand” which will numb only ONE tooth. Not at all like the old school injections. Much less swelling afterwards. Google “The Wand” and tell your dentist about it. The best thing since sliced bread!

NO pain or discomfort during my root canal the day AFTER Christmas. Also very little pain during the shot. I had a tooth extracted last month and the only pain/discomfort was the shot given to the inside side of the tooth.

    Love reading your blogs.

Julianne, that is the worst experience ever! I sort of have a fear of the dentist and recently had such an awful experience with fillings. I can only imagine what you went through! You needed muddy buddies for sure! I am a HUGE lover of Samoa cookie! This is perfect!

  9. Sarah @ Miss Candiquik

HAHAHA! I couldn’t believe that happened but 3 hours, a girl needs a little break. I hope I am going to see you in Miami!

  11. Lindsay @ Life, Love and Sugar

This puppy chow sounds amazing! Best flavor ever!

And I’m so sorry about your tooth. 🙁 That sounds awful! My husband had a root canal couple years ago and they injected him with 3 or 4 shots of novocaine too – not fun. I hope you feel better soon!

  12. Kathi @ Deliciously Yum!

Yes, yes, and yes! I am loving all these Girl Scout Cookie inspired treats – especially this one. Looks amazing!

  13. Heather {Woods of Bell Trees}

That royally sucks! You poor thing! I was going to say you have to stop on these delightful Girl Scout recipes because they are WAY too tempting to just try them all out in one day!

Your dentist needs to have a restroom installed IN the office. You poor thing! I can’t believe this tooth story! That walk across the courtyard must have been a long one. People usually have one memorable dental story and this will be yours. So no more, right? On to your glorious S Muddy Buddies; they look yumo. OK, back to dental issue….I AM the worst patient. We’ll talk DDS one day. I feel ya!!!!!!

  15. Courtney @ Neighborfood

This sounds so amazing. I am so sorry about your tooth. I hate when dentist’s visits that are supposed to be an hour turn into 3 hour long pain-fests. And, if it makes you feel any better, I had to ask to go to the bathroom the last time I had a filling put in. 🙂
