Hi, and welcome to Beyond Frosting® my name is Julianne. I am an East Coast girl at heart (Shoutout to my fellow Vermonters!) but now call the Pacific Northwest home. I’ve been creating recipes here since 2012.
Baking has always been a part of my life from helping my mom in the Kitchen to making Christmas cookies with my grandma. It just so happened that my grandmother’s nickname for me was “Sugar”. You’ll find lots of her recipes here including this pound cake and my favorite cutout cookies. I will always remember the cakes my mom decorated for our birthdays as well as icing our sugar cookies at Christmas time. In high school, I shared the recipe for these Classic Seven Layer Bars on our school’s news station. Things have really come full circle here.
Beyond Frosting came to be after I completed cake decorating classes and I quickly learned that I really enjoyed the baking and frosting much more than the fondant- so you won’t find any fondant around here. I love hosting and entertaining but really, it’s all about the food. I bake for others as a way to show that I care.
In 2016, I wrote my cookbook No-Bake Treats. Not only did it make the Amazon best seller list, but I also appeared on QVC’s In The Kitchen with David, and my book sold out in a matter of minutes. It has been one of the highlights of this career.
Countless people have landed on my website thanks to my unique technique for Vanilla Buttercream. Have you tried it? My secret is to start with cold butter. This has led me on an endless journey to create both classic and unique frosting recipes.
About Julianne
In 2018, I married my best friend after a dreamy mountaintop proposal. He’s been around since the very first days of Beyond Frosting and has been by my side through countless hours of work, thousands of recipes tested, editing the cookbook, and all the other adventures in the name of Beyond Frosting. We love traveling to new places, eating our way through our favorite cities, snowboarding together, and a good chocolate cake.
In my professional career, I worked as an apparel developer for 13 years, and my coworkers were my best taste testers. I left my corporate life in 2019 while I was pregnant with our first child.
We now have two young boys, and baking with my toddler has really inspired me to get kids in the kitchen. He’s been helping me since he was just over a year old (smashing his Cookie Monster Cake), and I absolutely love seeing him progress and learn new techniques in the kitchen. He most often requests to make chocolate cookies or brownies.
In my little corner of the internet, you’ll find dessert recipes that are simple and approachable for everyone whether you’re a novice baker or have spent years in the kitchen. I invite you to check out my baking tutorials if you’re looking to improve on techniques or baking knowledge.
